    • Many begin musical training in childhood (10 years old in my case), but formal conservatoire study usually starts at age 18.

    • A typical path is a 4‑year Bachelor of Music, followed by a 1–2 year Master’s or postgraduate diploma, then 1–3 year Young Artist/Studio programmes at major houses.

    • Altogether, that’s roughly 6–9 years of full-time higher education and early career training—and most singers continue private coaching and language study throughout their careers.

  • (International student, per year):

    • Tuition: £27,300 (2023–24 overseas rate for BMus)

    • Living costs: £13,500 estimated minimum for accommodation, food, travel, etc. Home

    • Total per year: ≈ £40,800

    • Total over a 4‑year BMus: ≈ £163,200

    (Home‑fee UK students would pay £9,250 tuition + ~£13,500 living = ~£22,750/year.)
